“This piece was inspired by the technological age of love. Social media has the power to destroy a relationship based on simple words like “ily” (which means “I love you”) that are tearing our language of love apart. Something so simple has now lost the meaning of the full sentence and a lazier version is now being used. I created this piece after being ghosted and completely ignored on the internet from someone who I knew deeply in person for months. The hurt that came from staring at a screen, trying to find answers, made me realize that social media has the ultimate power in most millennial relationships.
This piece is not only something that I feel is a problem in society today but it speaks to the hearts of those who have felt the pressure and heartbreak of social media and the effect on their relationship.”
